But you’re black. You can’t be black and superhero…

Excitement for the upcoming Marvel’ Black Panther couldn’t reach more, and thanks to the efforts of regular marketing professional from NY, thousands of kids will get the chance to see the uprising of cinematic diversity on the big screen for free.

On January 2018 he launched a GoFundMe campaign, that aimed to gather 10.000$ to take children of Harlem to see the Black Panther.  Frederick Joseph, 29, as an African American growing up in the whatsoever biased society, felt the importance of black representation on the big screen since he was a little boy. Once a kid in the kindergarten told Frederick, who was wearing a Batman costume:

“But you’re black. You can’t be black and superhero.”

Frederick’s main goal was to rais enough money to support the community he grew up in, but he couldn’t imagine his act of generosity to grow into such huge campaign. In two weeks Frederick already raised 42.000$ but this was just a beginning. After word about Frederick’s campaign hit the headlines, #BlackPantherChallenge went global.

Number of public figures as Snoop Dogg, Chelsea Clinton, Ellen DeGeneres and much more joined the campaign, moreover, various community members launched their #BlackPantherChallenge to support kids in their community to go watch Black Panther.

“To me, representation is one of the most important things that there is,” told he to BuzzFeed News. 

Today, a week before the premiere of the movie Frederick’s initiative spanned to more than 300 GoFundMe projects, including participants from all the 50 US states and 14 countries worldwide.  #BlackPantherChallenge raised more than 300.000$ and these only leaves world hoping that more is yet to come.
